Poker Hands:
"What Beats What Again?"
How annoying is it to be having a poker game with
your friends, everyone's got a stogie hanging out of their mouth
and they're real serious looking, and you're the poor schmuck
with the "Rules to Draw and Stud Poker" card sitting
on the table in front of you? Yeah, exactly. Well, you can throw
that card out, my friend, because we're about to enhance your
poker game right now. Below are the various poker hands ranked
from lowest to highest.
Low
Hand (ie. Ace High) Basically
a hand with nothing more going for it than its highest card,
called the Kicker. |
Pair
Two of the same card. |
2 Pair
A hand made of a pair of one rank and
another pair of another rank. |
3 of a
Kind Three cards of the same rank.
(AKA "Trips," or sometimes a "set")
Straight
5 consecutive cards, such as 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace.
In the case of there being more than one player at the table
with a straight, the straight to the higher card wins the
pot. |
Flush
5 cards, non-consecutive, but
all of the same suit. |
Full House
A 3 of a kind and a pair in the same hand. |
Four of
a Kind Four cards of the same
rank. (AKA "Quads") |
Straight
Flush 5 consecutive cards (ie.,
789TJ), all of the same suit. |
Royal
Flush The highest possible poker
hand; a straight from 10 to Ace, all of the same suit. (AKA
"Royal Straight Flush," "Royal," "Holy
Crap!") |
