Matt Etherington, Poker Celebrity!

Matthew Etherington was born in Truro, England on August 14, 1981. Etherington plays football (soccer) as a midfielder for West Ham United. Etherington joined Peterborough United as a trainee in 1998 and showed sufficient promise in the first team there by making 56 senior appearances.

Tottenham noticed Matt's skills and leadership, so the Spurs decided to shell out £500,000 for him in January 2000. Etherington, however, was unable to maintain a regular place in the first team at Tottenham and was loaned out to First Division Bradford City in 2001, where he played 13 games, scoring one goal. On August 8, 2003 he was transferred to West Ham for £1,000,000 and Fredi Kanoute. In West Ham Etherington became an influential member of the side. Matthew Etherington won the "Hammer of the Year" award for the 2003/04 season.

Matt Etherington has also had great success in poker. On December 1, 2004 Etherington picked up a cheque for £17,000 for taking first prize at a Poker Classic Tournament.
