Angela Basset, Poker Celebrity!

Angela had an unfortunate go when she appeared on the Celebrity Poker Showdown, losing to Mekhi Phifer when he flopped a pair of aces. Which is unfortunate, because from what we hear she's a pretty talented player.

Angela earned her masters in Fine Arts from Yale Repertory Theatre, and did a few commercials and a short run on "Guiding Light" before breaking into Broadway with productions like "Black Bottom" and "Come and Gone." Her big break into movies, though, was playing Reva Devereaux in the highly acclaimed John Singleton film "Boyz n the Hood" alongside Laurence Fishburne and Cuba Gooding Jr. Soon after she teamed up with Fishburne a second time for "What's Love Got to Do With It?" in which they portrayed Ike and Tina Turner. She was nominated for an Oscar for the role, and won a Golden Globe and an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Motion Picture.
